Nezuko proves her restraint by turning away from Sanemi's blood, and the master tasks Tanjiro with defeating a Twelve Kizuki to win the Hashira's trust. The siblings are sent to recover at the Butterfly Mansion as the Corps leader vows to destroy Muzan.
The twenty-third episode resolves Tanjiro's trial. Despite being stabbed repeatedly and tempted with Sanemi's blood, Nezuko recalls Sakonji's command to protect humans and refuses to attack, satisfying Kagaya Ubuyashiki. The master grants the siblings a place in the Corps but charges Tanjiro with proving himself against a Twelve Kizuki. Tanjiro reunites with his recovering friends at the Butterfly Mansion, while the Hashira meeting turns to the growing demon threat and the master's resolve to bring down Muzan Kibutsuji.
As Sanemi waves his blood before her, Nezuko relives the night of her transformation and Sakonji's instruction to shield people. She turns away in disgust, proving she will not harm humans even when wounded and provoked.
Kagaya tells Tanjiro that doubters remain and asks him to demonstrate his worth by slaying a Twelve Kizuki. When Tanjiro boldly vows to defeat Muzan outright, several Hashira stifle their laughter. The master also asks Sanemi and Obanai to ease their harshness toward the weak.
Shinobu has the siblings taken to the Butterfly Mansion, where Tanjiro finds Zenitsu, a despondent Inosuke who has lost his voice, and the Tsuguko Kanao Tsuyuri. That night, alone with the Hashira, Kagaya laments the rising demon menace yet voices faith in his assembled swordsmen, whom he calls his children, and privately swears to destroy Muzan Kibutsuji.
The episode adapts the latter half of chapter 47 and most of chapter 48. Both eyecatchers recreate the covers of chapters 47 and 46. The anime shows the full Hashira discussion that the manga only implies took place after Tanjiro departed, and it portrays Shinobu's laughter more openly than the printed version while softening some of the others' reactions.
