Recovering at Shinobu's mansion, Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu face grueling rehabilitation drills they cannot win against Kanao. Tanjiro works to sustain Total Concentration Breathing day and night, and Shinobu shares the grief that fuels her smile.
The twenty-fourth episode follows the trio's recovery at the Butterfly Mansion. Shinobu sees Kyojuro off on a dangerous mission before turning the boys over to a brutal rehabilitation regimen of stretching, reflex contests, and full-body tag. None of them can best the Tsuguko Kanao, and Tanjiro discovers the secret is maintaining Total Concentration Breathing at all hours. As he trains relentlessly, Shinobu confides the anger and sorrow she carries since her sister's death.
Two weeks after arriving, Tanjiro and Inosuke return from their first sessions utterly drained. Zenitsu, eager once he learns girls are involved, soon joins them. Aoi and Kanao run the drills, and while the boys eventually beat Aoi, Kanao remains undefeated.
The attendants reveal that the Hashira and Kanao sustain Total Concentration Breathing constantly, even while sleeping. Tanjiro is stunned to see Kanao burst gourds nearly his own size. He devotes himself to holding the technique day and night, using the mansion as a training course, and over fifteen days his stamina and lungs grow markedly stronger.
Shinobu finds Tanjiro training alone and asks him to protect Nezuko and carry her dream of demons and humans coexisting. When Tanjiro senses anger beneath her smile, she admits she has lived in constant rage since a demon killed her elder sister Kanae, who pitied demons as Tanjiro does. She entrusts that compassion to him and says she can finally rest.
The episode adapts the end of chapter 48 through part of chapter 50 and is named for chapters 49 and 50. The second eyecatcher recreates the cover of Volume 6. Shinobu's brief exchange with Kyojuro before his mission is original to the anime, as is the added scene of the trio taking their medication and the demonstration of each rehabilitation step.
