Appearance

Nezuko is a slender young girl with fair skin, long pointed nails that fade from pink to a reddish orange, and prominent fangs. Her long, wavy black hair shifts to a flame-orange shade past the elbows and is swept dramatically to one side. Her eyes are a soft pink that slope gently downward and are framed by long lashes. Tanjiro recalls that she was considered a beauty back home.

She wears a light pink kimono patterned with hemp leaves, secured by a checkered obi, with a long dark-brown haori layered over it. A small pink ribbon holds her hair back, and across her jaw sits the bamboo muzzle Giyu Tomioka first fitted on her. As a human she looked much the same, but with fully black hair tied in low buns and darker pink eyes, and she carried her youngest brother on her back.

In her awakened, advanced demon form she grows taller and more powerful, sheds the muzzle, and develops a single short horn on the right of her forehead along with vine-like markings winding across her skin and cat-like slit pupils. After overcoming her weakness to sunlight she regains the ability to speak, and her demon traits soften.

Personality

As a human, Nezuko was gentle and selfless, a dependable elder sister who looked after her younger siblings before herself, much like Tanjiro. After her transformation she loses most of her human memories apart from those tied to family, and her manner becomes more childlike. Even so, she keeps a strong protective streak and quickly turns from any hunger for human flesh once she senses her brother's resolve to keep her alive.

Her willpower is remarkable. She refuses to drink human blood even when badly wounded, holding firm when Sanemi Shinazugawa tries to tempt her with his rare Marechi blood. Two years of hypnotic suggestion from Sakonji Urokodaki shape this instinct, redirecting her buried rage over her family's slaughter into a fierce drive to shield innocent humans, in whom she sees her lost relatives.

The first time her demonic power awakens in full, during the clash with Daki, a crueler side surfaces and she torments her foe with unsettling glee, briefly slipping toward her feral state until Tanjiro steadies her with a lullaby their mother once sang. In later battles she learns to hold this advanced form with a clear and stable mind.

Abilities

Though never part of the Twelve Kizuki, Nezuko is a formidable demon. Her defining trait is an unusually rapid rate of growth, a result of the large amount of blood Muzan put into her. Rather than feeding on humans, she restores her strength through long stretches of sleep, and she can grow stronger mid-battle without any training, a power first shown against Susamaru when she regrew a blown-off foot and turned the fight around.

She wields enormous physical strength and speed, relying mainly on devastating kicks since she has no formal combat background. In her advanced demon form she severs Daki's limbs, kicks her across an entire district, and matches Hantengu's clones. Her regeneration becomes the equal of an Upper Rank, and she can even control the viscosity of her own blood to reattach severed limbs. During the Hantengu fight she abruptly develops immunity to sunlight.

Her Blood Demon Art, Combustible Blood, ignites her own blood into pink flames that harm only demons and their abilities while leaving humans untouched. The flames slow enemy regeneration, can neutralize poison, and can turn a Nichirin blade bright red to boost its cutting power, though heavy use leaves her sleepy.
