The Clash with Shinjuro

Shinjuro declares that talent is fixed at birth and that Kyojuro lacked any, dooming him to die as he did, then shouts at the grieving Senjuro to stop crying. Angered, Tanjiro tells him to stop, and the older man, noticing his hanafuda earrings, drops his alcohol in shock. He names Tanjiro a Sun Breathing user and pins him, striking Senjuro when the boy pleads. Enraged, Tanjiro throws him off and demands to know why he insults his dead son and beats the surviving one.

Sun Breathing Revealed

Shinjuro explains that Sun Breathing is the original style from which all others derive, but Tanjiro, confused, charges at him in fury, warning the man against insulting Kyojuro. Ignoring Senjuro's warning that the older man once served as a Hashira, Tanjiro takes a punch, then twists aside and drives his forehead into the older man's skull, leaving Senjuro stunned.

Afterward, Senjuro offers Tanjiro tea, and Tanjiro apologizes for the headbutt and thanks the boy, who in turn thanks him for defending his brother. Senjuro fetches a volume his father reads frequently, the chronicle covering the Rengoku line's 21st-generation Flame Hashira, which Kyojuro had mentioned to Tanjiro. When Tanjiro opens it, the two of them are stunned by what it contains.
