Personality

Boscogn holds nothing but contempt for cowards like Adon Coborlwitz who spend their soldiers' lives to spare their own skin. A challenging enemy delights him, which is exactly why the prospect of meeting the Band of the Falcon appeals to him, and it takes only a few exchanged strikes for him to recognize Guts as the fabled Hundred Man Slayer. Skilled as both fighter and tactician, he nonetheless bends to the authority of the higher-ranked Gennon even when his own judgment is sounder, and he privately loathes Gennon's appetite for young boys, dismissing such tastes as petty and vulgar.

Abilities

His signature weapon is a bardiche pole-axe wielded with enough control to wound men close beside him without killing them. When he duels Guts, their weapons collide faster than the watching soldiers can follow, and Guts rates the fight as harder than cutting through Adon's hundred mercenaries. A single sweep of his blade is strong enough to cleave several soldiers in two at once.

History

Boscogn is first seen inside Doldrey tearing into Adon for squandering an entire mercenary company and his own brother over a personal grudge, then stripping him of command for the rest of the war. Learning that a lone man dealt that damage, he meets Gennon, who tells him of the Falcon's plan to seize the fortress and orders that Griffith be captured alive. Boscogn welcomes the challenge such foes represent.

Before the battle he judges Griffith's decision to pin his small band against a river to be reckless, and is briefly puzzled when the Falcon divides its already tiny force. Guts charges him and shears the ornamental horns from his helmet, confirming for the general that this is the man who slaughtered Adon's mercenaries. When the Falcon feigns a withdrawal, a worried Gennon overrides Boscogn's caution about discipline and forces a pursuit.

Stepping in to keep Guts from reaching Griffith, Boscogn snaps the swordsman's blade and unhorses him, cutting down the Falcon members who try to shield their comrade without breaking his stride. Then a distant horseman, Zodd, hurls a sword across an impossible gap to land it before Guts. Taking it up, Guts blocks the charge and, in one swing, takes off both Boscogn's head and his horse's.
