The exam that made Naruto's world feel vast, this Part I arc throws Team 7 into the Chūnin Selection alongside a crowded field of rookies and foreign genin. Written trials, the deadly Forest of Death, a brutal preliminary bracket, and Orochimaru's shadow all build toward an invasion.
The opening written stage, overseen by Ibiki Morino, secretly rewards clever cheating and sheer nerve rather than raw knowledge, and Naruto scrapes through the final do-or-die question by refusing to give up even at the cost of staying a genin forever. The next phase drops the candidates into the Forest of Death under Anko Mitarashi, where Orochimaru, hidden among the entrants, tests Naruto and Sasuke, seals away the fox's chakra, and brands Sasuke with a cursed mark meant to lure him toward power. Left to guard her unconscious teammates, Sakura reaches her own breaking point, cutting off her hair and choosing to stand and fight.
Far more teams survive than expected, so a preliminary round thins the field. One after another, the matchups play out: Sasuke borrows Lee's speed to beat Yoroi, Shino's insects plug Zaku's deadly arms, and Kankurō's puppet crushes his opponent. Sakura and Ino knock each other out at once, Shikamaru outthinks Kin, and Naruto downs Kiba with a new combo. The cruelest bouts belong to the Hyūga cousins, where Neji nearly kills Hinata, and to Rock Lee, whose gamble against Gaara leaves him broken and his career in doubt.
A month's reprieve follows, and Naruto trains under Jiraiya, learning to walk on water and summon the great toad Gamabunta once his sealed chakra is freed. In the same stretch Gaara kills the wandering Dosu, Baki murders the proctor Hayate after he overhears the plot to attack Konoha, and Gaara's grim past surfaces, echoing Naruto's own history of scorn.
The finals, now run by Genma Shiranui, open with Naruto toppling Neji and reshaping the older boy's fatalism into a genuine friendship. Sasuke's long-awaited bout with Gaara is saved for last and showcases his new speed and the Chidori, but before it can end a smoke bomb bursts in the Kage's box. Kabuto's genjutsu lulls the crowd to sleep, and the invasion known as the Konoha Crush begins.

We ranked the six most popular women of Naruto from worst to first, and our number one is going to start a fight. The official poll got it wrong....

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
