Batta

Batta is a slim, fairly tall young woman with sun-tanned skin, unruly red hair falling around her face, and green eyes. Her wardrobe runs mostly white, a hoodie cropped to the navel over a matching skirt, set against black leggings, with a white forehead protector completing the look.

Direct and self-centered, Batta looks out for her own interests first and lends a hand only when there is something in it for her, happy to leverage other people's misfortune. She is wary by nature, quick to press for answers when a story does not add up, as she did even while held captive. The root of her selfishness is the loss of her home, which left her convinced that the wealthy have no regard for those beneath them. Still, she can shelve her feelings when a job demands it, she despises being deceived or exploited and swiftly turns on anyone who tries, and she is visibly shaken after being pushed to kill innocent people to keep herself and Fugō alive.

Her fighting relies on Wind Release, which lets her whip up a strong gust to hurl enemies back or lift herself and others to higher ground, and she can locate the weak point in a structure by pressing her hands to it and pushing chakra through. Those skills come into play once she and the rest of a Thunder Train's passengers are seized by Ōga, who insists they survived an accident. Batta recalls no such crash and never trusts him, so he forces the group through a string of experiments meant to test how well they can cheat death.

In the first trial, a collapsing platform, she preys on Fugō, sizing him up as weak and talking him into paying for her protection with the money she assumes fills his briefcase, then rides her wind up to safety with him in tow. The second trial ties each captive's life to a candle that can be stolen, and when a slow elevator threatens to outlast everyone's flames, Fugō orders her to seize two civilians' candles. The killings leave her rattled, and she rebuffs Yatsume's attempts at comfort while clashing with Boruto and the others. During a later trial where a descending ceiling and shifting hazards close in, Boruto finds a hidden gap beneath the floor and persuades Batta to locate a weak spot so they can break through and survive together.

Growing suspicious of a captive named Kiseru, she pegs him as Ōga's plant after spotting holes in his account and a concealed communication device. The final experiment, Calculation, hands each person a numbered card and demands they reach the gate holding cards that total seven. Batta takes Fugō's card after discovering his briefcase holds no fortune, only a chemical he meant to use against his family's kidnappers, and moments later both are cut down, Fugō stabbed from behind by Yatsume and Batta struck down after. The deaths prove illusory: the real Batta lies in suspended animation, trapped in Ōga's genjutsu. When Boruto refuses to abandon Yatsume, who is Ōga in disguise, Batta breaks free of the illusion on her own and releases the others. Softened by all she has endured, she offers Fugō a discount, knowing his family is struggling.
