Byakuren

Deep into old age, Byakuren is nearly buried under a mane of long grey hair and a moustache and beard that flow together to hide most of his face. A scar crosses his left eye, which is blind and shows pure white against the black of his right, an injury echoing Yagura's. His teeth are sharp and triangular in the manner common to Kirigakure shinobi, and he wears a loose, pale kimono over dark trousers.

Wariness defines him, paired with a bluntness that spares no one. He tells the First Kazekage flatly that his demands run too high and warns that any move against them could unite the other nations in retaliation. That same suspicion leads him to read Hashirama Senju's humility at the summit as a possible cover for some hidden aim. His stern, guarded temperament shapes how Kirigakure is run and keeps it aloof from its neighbors.

In the aftermath of the Warring States Period, Byakuren labors to raise the newly formed Kirigakure into one of the five great shinobi nations, though he holds it apart from the others. He attends the first-ever gathering of all five Kage beside a shinobi who will one day become the Third Mizukage. There he cautions Hashirama that bowing to supposed equals only invites suspicion, and he bristles when the First Kazekage, whose village already holds Shukaku, demands a thirty percent cut of the other nations' tailed-beast payments in place of a beast, calling the figure far too steep.

Renowned as a legendary shinobi gifted with worldly wisdom, he is later called back from the Pure Land after Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha seal Kaguya Otsutsuki. Joining the other departed Kage summoned by Hagoromo Otsutsuki, he helps retrieve Team 7, Madara, and the tailed beasts from Kaguya's dimension, and he marvels at the sight of every beast gathered together before his spirit returns to rest.
