Ebisu

Ebisu is dark-haired and brown-eyed, and his signature tinted glasses are a permanent fixture. Day to day he wears the standard Leaf uniform without its flak jacket, his forehead protector knotted bandana-style, though he pulls the jacket on when a mission calls for it. As an Academy pupil he swept his hair to the sides and favoured a dark suit topped by a thin brown shawl tied at both ends, an accessory he abandoned on making chūnin in favour of the bandanna protector and flak vest.

By nature Ebisu is rigid and strictly by-the-book. He first regarded Naruto Uzumaki as a worthless troublemaker and scoffed at the boy's Hokage ambitions, convinced that only those of distinguished blood ever amounted to anything. Watching the change Naruto worked in Konohamaru overturned that view completely, and when Pain later stormed the village Ebisu would sooner die than surrender Naruto's whereabouts. He is fiercely proud of and attached to his students, beaming when Konohamaru drove a Rasengan into Pain to rescue him. For all his professionalism, a lecherous side leaks through, earning him Naruto's label of closet pervert along with a habit of spying on the women's baths. Whenever something rattles him, he nudges his glasses back up his nose.

Ebisu started out as a genin on a squad with Might Guy and Genma Shiranui under Chōza Akimichi, and his own Chūnin Exams pitted that team against Team Minato in the Forest of Death. Kakashi ranks him among the finest instructors in the village, a reputation reflected in his being handpicked to prepare both Konohamaru for the Academy and Naruto for the Chūnin Exams. His teaching leans on a deep command of the fundamentals and a particular deftness with hand seals, and the anime shows him rounding this out with the Shadow Clone Technique, Fire Release: Fire Dragon Bullet, and capable taijutsu.

He entered the story as Konohamaru's tutor, irritated that the boy looked up to Naruto, and his month coaching Naruto on chakra control ended prematurely when Jiraiya knocked him cold after Ebisu interrupted the Sage's snooping at the baths. Over the time-skip he took charge of Team Ebisu, made up of Konohamaru, Udon, and Moegi, once apologising to the Fifth Hokage for Konohamaru's grumbling about menial missions. His defining moment came during Pain's assault, when he baited the Naraka Path away from Konohamaru, flatly refused to betray Naruto's location even at the risk of his life, and was saved at the last instant by Konohamaru's Rasengan.
