Nanara

The anime gives Nanara short hair in a greyish brown tone, its bangs falling to about jaw length on either side of his face. His eyes are a bright emerald green. Notably, he stands as the sole character to be drawn with distinct designs across the manga and anime versions of his story.

Nanara had no appetite for ruling and would rather hand the responsibility elsewhere than shoulder it himself. Perceptive despite his youth, he recognized that his sister Manari was being steered by her advisors, yet he raised no protest because the arrangement suited him. His silence toward her afterward came from a deeper worry: he feared she might grow to resent the role and blame him for having placed it on her. A mischievous streak also runs through him, expressed in the pranks he used to chase off unwanted tutors.

When his father died, Nanara stood as the leading candidate to take the throne of Redaku. He wanted nothing to do with it and pressed his sister Manari to rule in his stead, which she did without complaint. Not long after, the Prime Minister and his circle persuaded Manari that Nanara was too young to be raised inside the palace and should be sent away to Nagare Village. She consented, and Nanara, though certain she was being manipulated, held his tongue and cut off all contact once he left.

Before that departure, the Prime Minister had already worked to keep him powerless, urging that others read aloud to him rather than let him learn to read for himself. After Nanara settled in Nagare, tutors were dispatched to instruct him, but each one was swiftly driven away by his pranks, prompting the Prime Minister to simply send a replacement. Nanara later features in the events of Kakashi Retsuden: The Sixth Hokage and the Failure Boy.
