Tobirama Senju stands as the Second Hokage and a co-architect of Konohagakure, the pioneering ninja village he raised alongside his elder brother Hashirama. A pragmatic statesman and a combat legend, he built the institutions that let the settlement endure long after the Warring States Period.
Three crimson stripes marked Tobirama's face, one beneath either eye and a third across his chin, set against pale skin. His hair fell in a tousled silver crop above dark eyes, which the anime rendered red. For war he favoured segmented blue plate trimmed with a shaggy white collar, worn over plain black cloth, with layered guards stacked over each shoulder and a happuri covering his brow in place of a standard forehead protector. That faceplate first bore the Senju crest and later Konoha's.
His formal Hokage portrait shows him in a white haori over a blue kimono. Off duty he kept things simple, wearing a short-sleeved blue kimono shirt over mesh, cinched with a pale yellow sash, matched with blue trousers and a bracelet on one wrist. As a boy he went without the facial markings and dressed in pinstriped shirt and trousers that bared his arms, while his earliest battles saw him in green plating over torso and hips with fishnet at the wrists and shins.
Blunt to the point of harshness, Tobirama refused to soften unpleasant truths and trusted that firm laws and clear structure could settle most of the world's troubles. He held the shinobi code as inviolable and had little patience for anyone who bent it. That plainspokenness read as rude, yet he rarely lost his composure, which made him the natural brake on his brother's runaway idealism. When Hashirama chased a dream too recklessly, Tobirama dragged the plan back toward something workable, and Hashirama, though annoyed, usually yielded. Beneath the friction ran genuine devotion: he privately thought his brother foolish, loved him deeply all the same, and wished Hashirama valued himself as highly as everyone else did.
A committed believer in the Will of Fire, he treated every villager as family and reserved a rare, ferocious anger for anyone who menaced Konoha. His deepest political worry was the Uchiha, whom he judged too quick to put clan pride above the whole. He expected the Military Police Force he handed them to breed resentment rather than trust, and it did, yet he still respected any Uchiha who could rise above that bitterness, naming Kagami as his model. He warmed easily to Minato, a kindred quick thinker whose elaborate technique names he found amusing, while Minato's son Naruto mostly exasperated him.
Historians rank Tobirama among the strongest shinobi ever to live, a reputation even his rivals conceded. He cut down Izuna Uchiha, Madara's equal in skill, and was celebrated as the swiftest fighter of his age. When Orochimaru's forbidden reincarnation later returned him to the battlefield, he still moved fast enough to tag Obito unseen. A gifted sensor from boyhood, he could read the location and even the lineage of distant targets by pressing a finger to the earth. He wielded all five elemental natures plus Yin and Yang, but excelled at Water Release, conjuring tsunamis, dragons, and cutting jets with a single seal and no nearby water source.
His name is bound most tightly to two inventions: the Flying Thunder God Technique, which let him teleport himself and others between marked points, and the Summoning: Impure World Reincarnation, a kinjutsu that dragged the dead back in deathless, regenerating bodies. He also devised the Shadow Clone Technique and the Mutually Multiplying Explosive Tags, then outlawed his darkest creations once peace rendered them unnecessary. As a strategist he fought cold and precise, favouring the ambush over mercy and dissecting an enemy's methods to expose their weakness. Away from combat his mind shaped Konoha itself, founding the Academy, the Anbu, and the Chunin Exams, models so effective that rival villages copied them.

Tobirama gained a reputation for prejudice against the Uchiha clan because he distrusted them, believing they were too quick to put clan pride above the whole village, and he expected the Military Police Force role he assigned them would breed resentment rather than trust.
In the manga Tobirama's eyes are simply dark, but the Naruto anime chose to render them red for his onscreen appearances.
Tobirama Senju is credited with inventing the Flying Thunder God Technique and the forbidden Summoning: Impure World Reincarnation, and he also devised the Shadow Clone Technique and the Mutually Multiplying Explosive Tags.
Tobirama Senju's elder brother was Hashirama Senju, alongside whom he founded Konohagakure, and he also had two younger brothers, Kawarama and Itama.
As the Second Hokage, Tobirama founded the Academy, the Anbu, and the Chunin Exams, institutions so effective that rival villages later copied them, and he trained students including Hiruzen Sarutobi, Homura Mitokado, and Koharu Utatane.
