Burgeoning Hatred

Two days after Funamushi falls, relief supplies arrive from Kirigakure while worry lingers over the missing Iwabee and Denki, whom Metal keeps searching for alongside Team 7. The group brings a wounded Funato soldier back to the village, and Sarada heals him over the objections of Buntan, who had pledged herself to the man who killed Kagura. Buntan doubts the captive offers any real leverage, arguing that hostages would already have been used as bargaining pieces, but grants Sarada one more day. At Kagura's grave, Boruto admits that avenging him brought no relief, and Sarada shoulders the blame for Hebiichigo's death as captain. Together they resolve to bring their comrades home.

Iwabee and Denki reappear just as Metal's hope wavers, recounting how Funamushi spared them once he learned they had been gathering food for children, and how they slipped free when the Funato scattered after his defeat. Meanwhile the villagers Yamame and Iwana ask Kyoho to stay, an offer no one has ever extended to him. Buntan reveals her petition has won pardons for Kagura and Hebiichigo.

Scouting at night, Boruto is drawn into a trap by Gokai and nearly darted by a hidden second attacker, who turns out to be Kobuna, Funamushi's son bent on avenging his father. The boy's words echo Boruto's own, staying his hand until Sarada arrives to shield him and the attackers flee. Kawaki clashes with Boruto over his sympathy for Kobuna, and the group argues the endless cycle of vengeance. The captured Funato soldier then laughs that Boruto has been the Funato's enemy far longer than Funamushi, since he once injured Seiren, whose younger brother is Ikada.
