Coexistence

Kawaki opens his eyes in a hospital bed with Naruto, Shikamaru, and Konohamaru standing over him. Reassurances do nothing, and he lunges for the window, only for Shikamaru's shadow technique to lock him in place, along with the point that anyone meaning him harm would have acted long ago. Naruto offers a friendly introduction and gets only silence in return. A debate follows about whether the village should shelter the boy at all, with Shikamaru citing Konohamaru's report while Naruto argues that his own upbringing as a tailed-beast host could have gone the same guarded way had the Third Hokage not stepped in. Conceding the choice is not his alone, he brings the matter to the Five Kage Summit, where he and Katasuke lay out what Konoha has pieced together.

Naruto proposes keeping constant watch on Kawaki through shadow clones, a plan the rest of the Kage move to back. While Team 7 talks over the newcomer, Boruto slips away to feed Mugino's pet turtle, which bites him. Konohamaru arrives to gather the late jonin's belongings, is surprised Boruto has visited the apartment before, and the two share memories of Mugino; the turtle spares Konohamaru, who decides to keep it. Taking Kawaki home, Naruto heads off every escape the boy attempts, and Boruto reacts with alarm at learning the stranger will be staying with them for a time.

Naruto roots his patience in his own experience as a jinchuriki, urging his son not to mistreat the boy. An attempt at conversation collapses when Kawaki flips a table and smashes Himawari's vase; scolded by Boruto, he apologizes and at last gives up his name. The installment launches the Kawaki arc of the Boruto anime and adapts chapter 26 of the manga.
