Summary

Worried that their father has grown gloomy without his grandchildren around, Hanabi suggests she and Hinata throw Hiashi a birthday celebration and gather the whole family. Stumped on what to give him, Boruto pulls Mitsuki into a scheme to sneak into the Hyuga compound, only for Hanabi to catch them and admit she has no idea what her father wants either. The visit is interrupted when Gatai, a shinobi from Kumogakure, arrives to challenge Hiashi on the strength of his name. Hiashi has Hanabi turn the man away, as he always does, which leaves Gatai convinced the Hyuga leader is a coward and leaves Boruto more confused than ever.

Reporting back, Hanabi hears her father explain that Hyuga strength was never meant to be about force, a truth he wishes he had understood far earlier, as he gazes at an old photograph of himself with Hinata, Hizashi, and Neji. Later, when Gatai loudly mocks Hiashi at the Lightning Burger, Boruto's temper snaps and he challenges the man himself, dodging his lightning attacks with ease. As the fight threatens to level the shop and Boruto reaches for the Rasengan, Hiashi steps in, accepts the duel in the Hyuga name, and Gatai backs down and leaves.

Key Events

Hiashi warns Boruto that settling matters through power and fear only breeds ruin and hatred, but refuses to explain the past that taught him this, saying only that he once lived a very different life. Determined to understand, Boruto learns from Mirai that Kurenai once captained Hinata's team, and Kurenai finally tells him about the Hyuga Affair and how it reshaped the man Hiashi became. She points out that this very history is why he treasures every moment with his grandchildren.

On the day itself, Himawari gives her grandfather a scarf, and Boruto surprises everyone by asking for a family photo, a record that they are all happy together, which moves Hiashi to tears. That night, over tea, Hiashi asks whether Naruto planted the idea, and Naruto insists it was entirely Boruto's doing. Grateful, Hiashi thanks him for changing Neji, himself, and the whole Hyuga clan. The next morning he turns up at the Uzumaki home simply wanting to spend time with Boruto, much to the boy's embarrassment.
