Kawaki Enters the Ninja Academy!

Iruka greets a fresh class of Academy students, and Naruto delivers a few words on what he hopes they take from their training. Among the newcomers are Himawari with her friends Ehō and Yuina, and Kawaki, whose presence delights her. Kawaki is there on a covert assignment: protecting Kae Yukiwari, heir to the throne of the Land of Bamboo, an allied nation. A rival claimant threatens Kae's life, so her father sent her to Konoha for safety, though Kae herself knows nothing of the danger and treats the trip as an exciting chance to study abroad. Kawaki draws less notice than Boruto would and is to remain until Kae's father identifies the culprit, keeping the mission hidden even from Himawari.

The homeroom teacher Hana Kaka, nervous in her first class, introduces herself and the students. Most classmates buzz about Himawari being Naruto's daughter and Kae being foreign royalty, while shrinking from Kawaki, whom Kae alone finds intriguing. Eiki Fūma grows smitten with Kae, and Osuka Kamakura sulks at the lost spotlight. Kawaki's approach to Kae accidentally reads as flirting. His oddities pile up: he knows intimate facts about Naruto but nothing of prior Hokage, snaps to combat readiness at the school bell, and carries a daintily packed lunch.

Prompted by Himawari's tip about Kae's love of romance novels, Kawaki buys one, unsure of its use. When Eiki challenges him to spar and Kawaki dodges every blow, the boy later sneaks into the tool storage room and attacks with a summoning scroll. Lacking a contract, Eiki is flattened by his own summon, which Kawaki dispatches with a single punch. He tells Kae he only wants to be her friend and offers the novel. Kae, who admits she performs the expected role of a princess, agrees to friendship if he guards her real personality. Reporting to Naruto afterward, Kawaki grumbles about the low-level drills, and Himawari eavesdrops, thrilled to sense a secret mission.

This episode of the Boruto anime opens the Kawaki and Himawari Academy arc. Its credits run over the episode itself rather than the usual ending sequence. The opening theme is Kirarirari and the ending is Bibōroku.
