On the eve of the Chūnin Exam finals, the genin learn their opponents will be kept secret until match day, so each of them spends the night training, resting, and reflecting. Team bonds and quiet insecurities surface across the village, while four unknown men arrive in Konoha.
The genin are unsettled by the prospect of facing their own teammates in the finals. When Hōki Taketori asks whether the pairings will be revealed that day, the proctors explain that candidates are being tested on their ability to improvise, so each opponent stays hidden until the match begins. With the following day left open for training or rest, Denki and Iwabee console Metal Lee over falling short of the final round, while Team 7 talk over their reasons for wanting to make chūnin and vow to hold nothing back if they are matched against one another.
The next day, Kawaki skips training with Boruto and Mitsuki, and Metal instead helps Denki and Iwabee prepare. In Katasuke's lab, the exam rules let Denki wield scientific ninja tools of his own design, a chance he values since it lets a less combat-focused fighter show his strengths. Testing himself against Metal as a sparring partner, Denki wins handily.
Over barbecue, Inojin tries to seize control of Chōchō to keep their bill down but is easily overpowered. Reminiscing about eating there since infancy, Shikadai offers to cover the tab and suggests they split future ones once they are all chūnin. Afterward, Inojin and Chōchō notice he wore his chūnin vest beneath his clothes as a nudge for them to earn their own. Elsewhere, Sai works with Team 25 on their Anbu lessons, and Tsubaki, training with Wasabi, reveals she has been summoned back to the Land of Iron for a leadership role once the exams end, leaving her friends both proud and saddened.
When Team 5 arrives and Iwabee and Wasabi start bickering, Denki breaks it up, and Tsubaki notices how battered he looks from a full day of testing his tool. Sarada seeks counsel from Sasuke, who repeats the advice he once gave Boruto, that a shinobi must stay ready for anything. A loud noise leads her to Chōchō, training alone, who admits she feels envious that Shikadai is the only chūnin among them despite how close their team has become. As the genin prepare and celebrate for the day ahead, four men make their way into Konoha.

Naruto built the transformation jutsu himself, and the Hidden Leaf has been quietly not talking about it ever since. The story behind our 90s R&B record about the Naruko question everybody dodges....
