In this Boruto episode, Boruto and Sarada slip into Orochimaru's laboratory in search of answers about the missing Mitsuki. What they uncover about their teammate's origins forces them to weigh whether his departure was a betrayal or a choice he made for himself.
Wary of the jōnin guarding Orochimaru's hideout, Sarada helps Boruto reach it by taking on Mitsuki's form and luring the sentries away, letting him steal inside. Back in Konoha, the leadership debates Naruto's choice to welcome Mitsuki and reacts to word from Udon that Boruto and Sarada have vanished. Konohamaru, feeling responsible for his genin and torn over Mitsuki, asks to give chase, but Shikamaru instead dispatches Moegi's squad. Naruto admits he paired Mitsuki with Konohamaru so the two could bond free of any bias about the boy being Orochimaru's son.
Inside the lab Boruto discovers a Mitsuki clone floating in a tank, and after Suigetsu spots him, Orochimaru appears to explain that every Mitsuki is one of his experiments. He shrugs off the disappearance, noting a cursed seal would destroy Mitsuki should anyone expose his true nature. When the jōnin trap Sarada, Karin frees her and mimics Mitsuki to lead them off. Boruto hands over the snake Mitsuki left along with its message, and Orochimaru agrees to study it. He later tells the pair the snake carried nothing more and presses Boruto over whether he could accept Mitsuki leaving of his own will as easily as he accepted him arriving. Boruto affirms his trust, so Orochimaru sends them to seek the White Snake Sage at Ryūchi Cave. When Yamato questions him, Orochimaru flatly denies dispatching Karin or ever hosting the two genin, who are then intercepted by Team Moegi.

Naruto built the transformation jutsu himself, and the Hidden Leaf has been quietly not talking about it ever since. The story behind our 90s R&B record about the Naruko question everybody dodges....
