With Sasuke as the Goal

Over food at the Lightning Burger, the Konoha genin trade plans for their days off, with Shikadai dreading a visit to his mother's relatives and Boruto unenthused about camping with his fussy grandfather. Boruto would rather train with Sasuke, who promised to reach out by hawk. Spotting that very hawk delivering a message to the Hokage's office, Boruto releases it to stir up a distraction, then eavesdrops as Shikamaru and Yurito discuss Sasuke tracking Urashiki toward the Land of Wind. He hides his discovery even from Sarada, and the next day covers his trip by telling his mother he will be camping with Team 7 at Mitsuki's. After missing the passenger train, he stows away on a freight run, gets off a stop too early, and collapses from heat and thirst until a girl named Isago rescues him and takes him home.

Isago's father Gojo bluntly wants Boruto gone, and his hatred of ninja traces back to the Fourth Shinobi World War, when his own side razed his village to flush out enemies, driving him to raise Isago in isolation. That night an alarm reveals Gojo is being harassed by people who want his land for a power plant, and by morning they seize Isago to force a property transfer while still planning to poison the crops. Boruto storms in, cowing the thugs with a Rasengan and the threat of reporting them to Gaara. A grateful Gojo lends him a homemade trolley, which Boruto speeds along with Wind Release to reach the marked pillars of his destination. Finding traces of Amaterasu burning nearby, he investigates just as Sasuke and Gaara battle Urashiki and his Toneri puppets. Urashiki snatches Sasuke's chakra as he shields Boruto, then portals Sasuke away when he charges.
