Yoriko Kuroiwa

Yoriko wears her hazelnut hair in a short bob with straight-cut bangs, and a gentle, welcoming warmth radiates from her, usually paired with her school uniform and an easy smile. The cut stays the same after the timeskip, though she ties it back with a bandana while working, and once the Clown Siege has passed she lets it grow out to nearly its former length.

Sweet-natured, kind, and set on her cooking ambitions, Yoriko pours genuine care into the people around her. There is an irony to her talent: dishes that delight human palates taste even more revolting to ghouls than ordinary food. She frets over Touka, teases her about Kaneki being a supposed boyfriend, and is held just as dearly in return, a bond that mirrors the one between Kaneki and Hide.

When Touka falls ill, Yoriko brings food to her home and stumbles onto Ken Kaneki there, taking him for a boyfriend. She and Touka plan a summer trip to the zoo, and after the Anteiku raid she waits there alone. Following the timeskip she turns up at the Oasis bakery, reconnecting with Takeomi Kuroiwa, a former elementary-school classmate, who eventually proposes; she happily accepts.

Her happiness becomes a weapon in others' hands. Tooru Mutsuki brandishes a mutilated hand bearing an engagement ring to torment Touka, falsely claiming Yoriko has been arrested for sheltering ghouls, though she in fact celebrates her wedding unharmed. Later she truly is detained under the Ghoul Countermeasures Law on fabricated evidence, tried, and condemned to death, with Bureau Director Kichimura Washuu ordering the sentence carried out. Only after the Dragon War is she cleared of every charge, free at last to bake at home and raise her firstborn son.
