Stark steels himself to face the Solar Dragon that menaces the canyon village he has come to call home. With Fern's quiet encouragement and Frieren's reading of his trembling courage as the very mark of his master Eisen, the young warrior wins his fight and earns his place beside the two travelers.
Tracking down Stark after he slips away from the looming battle, Fern asks why he keeps drilling so hard if he has no intention of facing the dragon. He explains that the villagers look to him as their protector, a role he feels bound to honor even as he fears bolting at the last moment. The mark on his brow, he admits, came from a falling-out with Eisen over his reluctance to kill monsters, and he laments that his teacher never once offered him praise.
Studying his battered, calloused hand, Fern grasps the depth of his training and assures him he will hold his ground. Her certainty comes from her own past, when terror once sent her fleeing from her first monster while Frieren stood back and refused to intervene. Only when she steeled herself did her body move on instinct and bring the creature down. Convinced his vow to guard the town is sincere, she departs for the night.
At dawn Stark meets Frieren and Fern at the cliffs and makes Frieren swear to slay the beast herself should he fall. When she questions why a mere three years among these people matters so much, he calls that span an eternity, brushing aside her talk of how fleeting it is. His hands tremble as they advance, and Frieren laughs that the shaking marks him as Eisen's true student, recalling how the old warrior once confessed his own fear and credited it with carrying him through the Hero Party's quest.
As Stark closes in, the dragon holds back, wary of a foe it senses is dangerous, and Frieren explains that such creatures are far too clever to provoke real strength. She also reframes the blow Eisen once dealt his pupil, revealing through memory that it sprang from fear of Stark's raw potential rather than contempt, and that Eisen privately judged him a future great warrior. Stark lands a crushing hit and screams for covering fire, but Frieren halts Fern, telling the panicked youth the dragon already lies dead. She praises him and raids the nest, and his repeating of Eisen's words about the journey turning gloriously absurd thanks to her stirs her own recollections.
This 11th chapter, published on July 22, 2020 in Issue 34, fills twenty pages of the second volume and falls within the Beyond Journey's End arc, set in the Riegel Canyons. Its events were adapted as the sixth episode of the anime, and the cover pairs Stark with Fern and Frieren.
A flashback shows Frieren conjuring shaved ice with a spell she just turned up in a dungeon and serving it to Heiter, while Himmel and Eisen weigh the road ahead. Himmel insists on a venture they can later laugh about even against grim odds, since the Hero of the South had already fallen to the Demon King's Seven Sages of Destruction. The closing scene adds Stark to the group, partly on his master's instruction and partly from his own wish to share such a journey. A gag spell that peers through clothing also debuts here, later expanded in the side story Frieren Makes a Detour, which sits outside the main canon. Frieren further notes she carries no magic able to conjure syrup for Heiter's ice.

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....

Five Bleach female characters, ranked and settled. Yoruichi sits at number five, the spot nobody expects, and our number one is an Arrancar with a soft heart....
