Summary

Three decades after Himmel dies, Frieren's party finds itself stopped at the Great Tor Canyon, a gorge dropping three kilometers, hemmed in by punishing winds and dead-end detours, an upstream mountain pass on one side and a sheer cliff below on the other, which Frieren wants to see for the view. Going upstream on the hope of a way over, they come upon a bridge raised by the dwarf Gehen, who has worked it for two hundred years. Frieren marvels that it stands done with no rumor ever reaching her, and Gehen explains that giant birds now stir savage gusts over the span, even carrying off merchants headed for the Golden Land. He pledges a spell for flawless pancake flipping, plus the ingredients, if they wipe out the birds' nest, and Frieren agrees.

On the trek there, Stark asks why Gehen ever chose to bridge the gorge. Frieren relays that demons leveled his old village while the closest garrison sat helpless on the far rim. When the dwarf's money gave out, Himmel covered the rest, funds won by recovering a nobleman's heirloom sword from the demon who had taken it. Gehen hesitated to accept, knowing Himmel would be long gone before the work ended, but the hero promised Frieren herself would take it in his place.

The party clears the nest and collects the grimoire. Asked his plans now that the bridge is whole, Gehen says he will see out his days in his village, explaining to a startled Frieren that two centuries is plenty for a new village to grow.
