Amane

Amane is a fair-skinned girl of ordinary height and build, most often wearing a bright smile. Her black hair falls to the nape and is parted into long bangs that sweep over the left side of her face, with a few stubborn cowlicks poking free. Wide, pale eyes give her an open expression, and she typically pairs the standard Kaibara uniform with a blue sweater.

Gentle and considerate, Amane puts others first almost by instinct; she had fretted over Sawa since the school's opening ceremony and simply wanted to be her friend, nothing more. Around those she trusts she is bubbly, a touch dreamy and scattered, and openly affectionate, quick to voice how much her friends mean to her. She also has a habit of overthinking and flusters easily, losing her composure when embarrassed, yet she is perceptive enough to read between the lines and notice when someone's words do not match their true feelings.

Amane's wish to speak with Sawa went unfulfilled for a while, since Sawa kept to herself, until their classmate Riku Sohma stepped in. Having overheard how badly Amane wanted to share lunch with her, Riku confronted Sawa about it, and thanks to him the two girls finally connected, delighting Amane. From then on she stood up for Sawa and supported her at every turn.

Her closest bond, though, predates all of this: she and Mito were already inseparable, waiting for one another's classes and walking home together despite their opposite temperaments. Amane grows friendly with Riku as well, seeing through his gruff dishonesty to the care beneath it, and at the cultural festival he coldly drives off a trio of older boys pestering her, a protectiveness Mito reads as something more.
