Riku Sohma

Tall and lean like his father, Riku has sharp, brown eyes that read as intimidating and short, tousled white hair falling over his forehead. Unlike Haru, his hair is noticeably straighter, a trait from his mother Rin, whose expressions he also tends to mirror. Despite his forbidding face he is thought quite handsome and draws admirers of both sexes. He usually wears his school uniform left unbuttoned, along with a necklace his father wore in his own youth.

Quiet, serious, and blunt in the manner of his mother, Riku can seem cold or even frightening because of his expressions, though his intentions are consistently good. He simply struggles to voice what he feels, sometimes slipping compliments to Sawa so subtly they go unnoticed. In truth he is gentle and dependable, ready to stand up for anyone in trouble and quick to apologize sincerely when he is in the wrong. Sharp-minded and, as Mutsuki puts it, someone who does everything flawlessly, he is not above turning his intimidating look to good use in order to shield the people he cares about.

Riku is first glimpsed dozing in class during one of Sawa's inner monologues. His first real exchange with her comes when he grows irritated at seeing her comfortably eating lunch with Ruriko and others, since a classmate named Amane had long hoped to share a meal with Sawa only for Sawa to keep slipping away. Once he bluntly explains himself and apologizes, Sawa resolves to be more mindful of those around her.

He grows close to Sawa over time, looking out for her, and shares a warm if bickering bond with his twin Sora, the two near-opposites rarely far apart. He also pays notable attention to Amane, whom Sora suspects is just his type, and steps in to scare off older students harassing her during the school's cultural festival.
