Sohma Maid

The head maid is a woman past middle age whose face carries faint markings and a pair of keen, pale green eyes. Her grey hair is gathered into a tidy bun, and she is never seen out of a kimono, a fitting look for someone rooted in so old-fashioned a world.

Duty comes first for her, always. She is a grave, disciplined woman who places her obligations to the clan ahead of whatever she may personally feel about them. Her devotion to Akito runs so deep that she overlooks even cruel behavior, reasoning that a god is entitled to it, though that loyalty finally cracks once Akito resolves to change and the maid finds she cannot follow.

For over twenty years she has served the Sohmas, and she took charge of raising Akito after Akira died and Ren refused to have anything to do with the child. In that role she became a stand-in parent, one of the only women Akito can tolerate; she once handed the grieving girl an empty box and claimed it held her late father's soul to ease the loss. She distrusts Ren, dating back to the woman's engagement to Akira, and she faults Hatori for leaving the estate rather than staying to attend Akito's needs. When Akito at last extends a hand and asks that they walk ahead side by side, the head maid, protesting that she is too old to accept such upheaval and preferring the Akito she once knew, quietly turns and steps away.
