I'm Going

Rather than burden anyone while her grandfather's house is renovated, Tohru Honda has been quietly living in a tent. When she wanders onto the land where she pitched it, she meets the family who owns it, setting in motion the discovery that will change her life and reveal the Sohma zodiac curse.

Drawn to a tiny zodiac figurine set outside a house in the woods, Tohru meets its owner Shigure Sohma and then her own classmate Yuki, the so-called prince of her school, who turns out to be Shigure's cousin. Yuki walks her to class, where his admirers harass her until Arisa Uotani and Saki Hanajima step in. Later he escorts her to work, and their talk drifts into the darker history of the zodiac and his loathing for the cat.

That night Shigure and Yuki spot Tohru returning to her tent and learn she has been hiding her homelessness rather than impose on relatives. She collapses with a fever, and after a landslide crushes her tent, she spends the night indoors. Confiding her regret over never saying goodbye to her mother on the day she died, Tohru sleeps while Yuki, moved by how her story mirrors his own, sets out with a swarm of rats to dig her belongings from the slide.

Tohru accepts the offer to stay with Yuki and Shigure. As she moves her things, Yuki is suddenly attacked by his cousin Kyo, who bursts in demanding a fight. In the chaos Tohru stumbles into all three, and Yuki, Kyo, and Shigure transform into a rat, a cat, and a dog before her astonished eyes.

The title is taken from a line of Tohru's. Adapting the first chapter, the premiere opens with an anime-only view of Tohru admiring the city before she notices Shigure's house, and adds a narration about the zodiac curse and the original promise whose animation later recurs in the season three episode Goodbye. A manga beat of Tohru being unnerved by the Prince Yuki Fan Club watching from the trees was cut, and her fever-rest wardrobe differs from the source.
