Satella first appears as a soft, matronly young woman in the final stretch of pregnancy, roughly nine months along at the point she is introduced. The story lingers far less on her features than on her rounded belly, which so fascinates Edward and Alphonse that she lets them press their hands to it and feel the child stir within.

Warmth and tenderness define her. She comes across as an affectionate, big-hearted presence who welcomes strangers into the family home without hesitation. Even in the frightening ordeal of a difficult labor, she keeps her composure and trusts the people around her, letting Winry step in to guide her through the delivery.

Paninya brings Edward, Alphonse, and Winry up the mountain to consult the automail engineer Dominic, and there the group meets his expectant daughter-in-law. That same day her contractions begin just as thunder and heavy rain sweep across the valley. With the downpour making travel unsafe, Dominic sets out to fetch a physician, only to find that a lightning strike has taken down the bridge into town and cut off any hope of returning with the doctor in time.

Left with no alternative, Winry volunteers to bring the baby into the world herself. Drawing on her practical grasp of medicine and with Paninya lending a hand, she safely delivers a healthy boy while Dominic takes the long road around. In the 2003 adaptation the sequence is dropped entirely and reworked around Gracia Hughes bearing Elicia instead, leaving Satella, Ridel, and Dominic's wider family out of that version of the tale.
