Far below Central Command, Lan Fan threads through the sewer tunnels and catches soldiers muttering that their returned leader has wrecked a Briggs Tank, placing him at the main gate. Fu, now certain that Wrath and King Bradley are one and the same, grips his sword against the enemy who once cost his granddaughter an arm.

Inside the commandeered office, Olivier Armstrong and Izumi Curtis wring a confession from Brigadier General Edison: the leadership means to feed the whole population of Amestris into a Philosopher's Stone and swallow every neighboring land. When Edison admits Bradley was engineered for precisely this end, the watching Central troops falter. Izumi cracks him across the face with her sandal and demands to know how they will act now that the truth lies bare. Olivier tells them that obeying a leader they cannot trust is self-deception rather than devotion, and one by one the men tear the rank insignia from their coats as their answer.

Ed, Scar and Mustang reach the Gold-Toothed Doctor, who boasts of having built Bradley and then raises a pack of undead fighters, the rejected candidates for the role of Führer, while scratching an array into the floor. Out at the gate, Wrath overwhelms Greed and the ailing Fu even as Falman pins the stairwell shut with a machine gun. The homunculus forces Fu to trade weapons, blinds him with a scalp wound, and cuts him down. Fu readies four Xingese bombs for a suicide charge, but Wrath severs the fuses. The dying Buccaneer then drives Bradley's own blade through Fu and into Wrath's chest, and Greed's follow-up shatters the swordsman's Ultimate Eye. From a nearby tower, Lan Fan watches her grandfather fall.

As Ed's group struggles against the tireless zombies and Hawkeye shields Mustang, the doctor completes a five-point circle tying together the basements beneath Central's five laboratories. Its activation rattles the city like a tremor, consumes the undead soldiers ringed around the doctor, and hauls the three human sacrifices, Ed, Al and Izumi, away to another place entirely.

The installment draws on the manga chapters "Greed Without Limits" and "Eternal Rest," and its title card features the doctor's Five-Point Circle. An original exchange absent from the source, in which Izumi and Olivier weigh what the Gate truly is and what drives Edward, is added here. The page also observes that the manga credited one of Buccaneer's subordinates, not Buccaneer himself, with the warning that pulling Bradley's sword free would mean bleeding to death, and that Fu receives a silent title card.
