Yuya Fungami

A stylized H☆S marks Yuya's chin, a tattoo that quietly spells out the name of his Stand. He stands at roughly Josuke's height and carries a lean, well-toned frame, with his hair swept back over closely shaved sides. His wardrobe reflects his roots in Japan's motorcycle-gang culture of the 1970s: a dark, customized outfit stamped with a distinctive star motif. Around his collar sits a wide, puffed white bow tie printed with the phrases Highway and Speed King, the latter serving as a direct rendering of his surname.

Yuya first comes across as smug and self-serving, the kind of rogue who attacks from a distance while three devoted admirers fawn over him. Beneath that surface, though, sits a braver and more thoughtful person than his introduction suggests. Once he joins the effort against Terunosuke Miyamoto he shows genuine loyalty, courage, and a sharp knack for reading a situation. He is fiercely protective of his three groupies, and the bond runs both ways. One nervous habit gives him away: whenever fear takes hold, he reaches up and touches his chin.

Yuya's power comes from Highway Star, a largely automatic Stand that locks onto a chosen target and pursues it at around sixty kilometers per hour to siphon away the victim's life energy, which in turn speeds his own healing. He also possesses a startlingly keen nose, able to read a person's emotions from the chemicals their body gives off. His fate was set after a drunken racing crash left his spine wrecked and nearly every bone shattered, wiping out the rest of his gang; while he lay barely breathing in the hospital, Yoshihiro Kira struck him with the Bow and Arrow.

Desperate to mend faster, Yuya used his new Stand to drain strangers of their vitality, including Rohan Kishibe. When he set his sights on Josuke, Koichi tracked the source and Josuke confronted him. Josuke healed his wounds only so that Crazy Diamond could batter him back into ruin, and he was left bedridden for months under the promise of another beating if he ever misused the power again.

He returns during Koichi's abduction by Terunosuke Miyamoto, agreeing to sniff out his friend but insisting he will do nothing more, unwilling to make an enemy of Yoshihiro. The trail leads them to Tomoko Higashikata shortly before Enigma seals Josuke into paper. Moved by Josuke's willingness to risk everything for Koichi, Yuya imagines doing the same for his admirers and rescues both, only to be trapped in paper himself; the pair repay the favor when Terunosuke threatens to tear the sheet. He bids farewell to Reimi Sugimoto as the story closes, last seen sharing a meal with his groupies at Tonio Trussardi's restaurant.
