Appearance

Pale-skinned and of ordinary stature, Mousse kept her dark hair braided behind her, with a pair of loose strands framing her face. Her eyes were black, and twin small white wings rose from her back as they did on every Shandia. For clothing she favored a short green tunic that ended around the thigh, trimmed at the collar and hem with orange and purple stripes and edged with white fringe at the sleeves. A checkered purple and white hat and brown sandals completed the look.

Personality

Unlike her fiery father, Mousse carried a gentle, caring temperament and worried constantly about the welfare of her people. She walked to the altar willingly, drawing comfort from the belief that death would unite her with the tribe's god. The sight of what she took to be that god terrified her, and she froze rather than flee even when Mont Blanc Noland shouted for her to run. His rescue, and her later conversations with his crew, made her among the first Shandia to accept that the foreigner meant no harm. She was also alone in seeking out Noland's men to explain why the village shunned them, then racing back to warn her father of the tribe's mistake.

History

When a dying priest claimed a vision demanding the tribe offer up its most beautiful woman to lift the so-called curse ravaging Jaya, Mousse stepped forward to spare everyone else. Noland struck down the giant serpent before it could swallow her, then insisted the sickness was a treatable disease rather than divine punishment. While he searched for a remedy, both she and his crew were caged, giving her time to learn about their captain. After Noland returned with the cure and the Shandia recovered, she wept in Kalgara's arms over what had nearly happened, and was later seen dancing alongside the visitors.

The peace shattered when the tribe discovered Noland had felled their sacred forest. Once Mousse understood that the woodland had spawned the plague, she rushed to tell the villagers, who rang the golden bell in remorse as Kalgara chased after Noland to beg forgiveness. In later years, after the Knock Up Stream hurled part of the island into Skypiea, Mousse married Seto and had a child. Their line survived four hundred years, with Wyper standing as its living descendant.
