Appearance

Average in build and light of skin, Spencer gathers his wavy red hair into a ponytail, leaving a level fringe and a pair of strands draped on either side of his face. While roaming the seas under Roger, he dressed in a yellow shirt beneath an olive-green jacket marked with stylized patches along the left sleeve, dark red trousers cinched by a brown haramaki, and flat dark shoes. From time to time a sword hung at his side.

Personality

Very little of his character has been put on the page, although he plainly relished the adventures he shared with his crewmates. Like the rest of them he thought highly of Shakuyaku and was incensed at having to hand her over to Silvers Rayleigh, going so far as to guard the two as they broke away from Marines and rival pirates. Serving as the crew's intelligence officer, he is taken to have genuine talent for espionage along with the sharp analytical eye the post calls for, and as a Roger Pirate he is presumably no slouch in a fight. The sword shown in his concept art he handled deftly, slicing straight through the blades of other pirates at God Valley.

History

Spencer already belonged to the Roger Pirates forty-four years back, when he pitched in on a strike against the Kuja Pirates intended to bring Shakuyaku into the fold, while Roger readied the crew to face down a vessel of the Marines that bore Monkey D. Garp. Two years afterward, with Shakuyaku having retired to Hachinosu, Spencer caught Roger declaring his intent to sail there and bring her aboard. Thirty-eight years ago the crew arrived at God Valley to free her and, presumably, to take on the Rocks Pirates, in what history would call the God Valley Incident. Once Rayleigh had pulled Shakky to safety, Roger told the crew to protect the pair and clear them a way out, and Spencer, though sore that she had picked Rayleigh, hewed an escape route through the Marines and pirates beside the others.

Twenty-five years ago the crew held a feast to bring Kouzuki Oden into their ranks. On the closing voyage to Laugh Tale, Spencer laid eyes on the Road Poneglyph kept at Fish-Man Island and treasured the hours among his fellows, joining the group that plotted the course after all four Road Poneglyphs had been gathered and laughing with the crew when they reached their goal. At Roger's departure from the crew, Spencer saw him off in tears. What became of him after the crew was dissolved is not known.
