Episode 6: This Summer's Going to Be a Hot One

After two classmates catch Hori and Miyamura stepping out of her house one morning, word of their relationship spreads quickly, and the general disapproval infuriates Tooru. Worried that his own image is dragging Hori down, Miyamura cuts his hair and sets aside his glasses. The makeover turns heads and draws sudden interest from the very girls who had mocked him a day earlier, leaving Hori quietly jealous. The couple then visit Shindo, who is moved to tears by the change. While sharing a stash of oddly flavored candy Shindo had won, Miyamura suddenly kisses Hori to steal the clay-flavored piece from her mouth, afterward grumbling about its bitter taste.

A persistent classmate presses Hori about the romance, then trails Miyamura to ask when they will break up, only to get a flat refusal. She introduces herself as Honoka Sawada and confesses she is smitten with Hori, touching off a literal tug-of-war before Miyamura pulls Hori to class. Heading home, Miyamura and Sawada discover they live next door to each other; locked out, she waits in his apartment and hints, half-jokingly, at once having had a brother, a claim his mother later confirms was real and that the boy had died a year earlier. The next morning Miyamura scares off some boys bothering Sawada with a single glare. That night a horror-movie session with Hori and her father nearly ends in a kiss, spoiled when Kyousuke barges back in for his forgotten wallet.

Takao Yoshioka handled the screenplay, while Shinobu Sasaki took on both storyboard and episode direction. The episode premiered in Japan on February 14, 2021, and in English on March 20, 2021. It draws on material from manga chapters 26, 27, 29, 30, and 32.
