Chapter 4

A simple shopping trip snowballs into a chapter-long fixation on one missing detail. Walking home together, Kyouko Hori and Izumi Miyamura pause at a poster of a short-haired idol, and from across the way Yuki Yoshikawa spots Hori beside a boy she fails to place, thrown off by Miyamura's more casual look. Once she is home, a question from her mother Yuriko forces Hori to confront the fact that she still does not know Miyamura's given name, and the rest of the story follows her flustered, roundabout effort to uncover it.

At school Hori refuses to simply ask, resorting instead to eavesdropping outside the boys' locker room, pumping their homeroom teacher for hints, leaning on a still-dejected Tooru Ishikawa, and studying the honor-roll list, none of which pays off. Cornered by Yuki about the boy she saw, Hori covers by calling him a cousin and then bolts. The idea that finally rescues her comes at the dinner table: since Miyamura is due to visit on Saturday, his introduction to Yuriko should reveal everything.

When Saturday comes, Yuriko and Souta welcome a nervous Miyamura, and once the mother slips off to work the two are left alone. Miyamura casually notes that Hori addressed him by his first name, and by asking him to repeat what she said, she at last learns it, prompting him to laugh and jot it down for her. Their easy talk about names and family in the kitchen breaks on a jolt when the doorbell brings not a delivery but Yuki, returning Hori's notes, leaving Hori frozen behind the wall.

Titled Page 4, this is the fourth installment of the Horimiya manga created by HERO and Daisuke Hagiwara. It ran in Issue #2 (2012) and was later gathered into the first collected volume, carrying a release dated January 18, 2012. Beyond the two leads, the chapter features Yuki Yoshikawa, Yuriko Hori, Souta Hori, Tooru Ishikawa, and Reiko Terajima, and it closes on the cliffhanger of Yuki reaching the Hori household just as Miyamura answers the door.
