Summary

A flashback shows a younger Mutsuki speaking with CCG investigators about the tragedy that befell his family. They offer him a spot in the bureau's Academy Junior School and assure him he can lead an ordinary life. Mutsuki asks to be addressed as a man, explaining that he has always felt a deep loathing for having been born a girl.

In the present, Torso becomes fixated on the scar across the left of Mutsuki's chest. Mutsuki draws his quinques and slashes him, and a startled Torso, realizing his passenger is an investigator, recoils, though he still batters Mutsuki with a flurry of blows to the face. Urie and Shirazu close in on the taxi aboard a motorcycle. Urie, carrying a quinque case, reveals that he has identified Torso as Karao Saeki, and the two accelerate on spotting Mutsuki in the back seat.

Shirazu's right shoulder shifts into an Ukaku and launches a projectile at the tire, but the shot goes wide. A police cruiser then pulls up behind them and orders both vehicles to halt for speeding. When the officers draw near his bike, Urie signs that the target is a ghoul, and the police join the pursuit, only for Karao's kagune to behead both of them. Ahead, Karao is caught off guard by a wall of police cars blocking the road.

Suspecting Sasaki arranged the roadblock, Urie watches Karao abandon the taxi as Shirazu fires another round that rips open the ghoul's abdomen. Urie unleashes his kagune to meet Torso head-on, while Mutsuki fails to summon his own and scolds himself against his more capable comrades. Shirazu points out that Karao is a Rinkaku type with rapid regeneration. Just as the investigators are about to seize him, Serpent appears, scattering the surrounding cruisers with his kagune before advancing on the group.
