Warm and unpretentious, Art treats the heroes he serves as friends rather than clients, lending an ear to their worries as readily as he mends their outfits. Mark especially leans on him for honest counsel, and Art will patch a suit overnight despite a stacked workload. Nolan's crimes against Chicago wound him deeply, since he counts the Viltrumite a close companion and not merely a customer.

When Omni-Man drops by with beer during the Guardians investigation, Art has already pieced together the truth, yet he masks his dread and lets the evening play out, revealing a striking capacity to stay calm under threat. Nolan's permanent departure sends him spiraling into drink and depression, souring his temper with clients until visits from Mark and the family lift him. He balks when Oliver takes up his father's emblem, warming to it only after the boy reframes the symbol as his own. Nolan's brief Season 4 return to enlist Mark rattles him badly; he keeps his composure just long enough to refuse making the Viltrumite a suit, insisting his costumes belong to heroes alone, then breaks into panicked hyperventilation once alone, a mark of lasting trauma.

Before Atom Eve is even born, Art supplies Nolan of Viltrum with the Omni-Man costume, adding the bold red and chest insignia after judging the plain Viltrumite garb too forgettable. In the years that follow he counsels Mark on relationships, outfits Oliver in a red-and-black suit bearing a stylized O, and builds Mark an upgraded yellow-and-blue costume to replace the darker suit the young hero fears is turning him into his father. When Nolan finally returns to Earth with a twelve-pack and a request for one more suit, Art quietly turns him down, telling him he dresses only heroes.
