Nolan's Mother

She was a middle-aged Viltrumite of lean build, her face lined with visible wrinkles. Brown hair gathered into a thick ponytail framed a pair of blue eyes. The standard white-and-gray military uniform marked her as one of the empire's soldiers. In the fallout of Nolan's adulthood trial she was left missing her left eye.

She embodied the Viltrumite creed that weakness cannot be tolerated. Far harsher than her mate, she drove Nolan's coming-of-age duel nearly to the point of killing him. Even once he had proven himself she offered no trace of family feeling, severing ties and voicing open contempt for both her son and her partner. That merciless streak likely helped forge the discipline, toughness, and cold cunning Nolan carried into his later years.

Born during Viltrum's golden age, she grew up to train and rise as a soldier of the empire, probably as an officer or agent. When Argall's assassination touched off the Great Purge, she fought her own kind and lived through it, afterward pairing with an unnamed Viltrumite male to bear a child.

Following Nolan's adulthood ceremony she branded both husband and son as feeble, told them she never wished to see either again, and flew off. Whether she caught the Scourge Virus that soon swept the planet, and where she ended up, is never made clear. Her ferocity in subjugating worlds later echoed in the way Nolan conducted himself as an imperial soldier.

In combat she was a punishing fighter, quick enough to overpower Nolan and pin him down while dealing out savage blows. Her arrogance left her exposed at moments, and one of her son's gambits cost her an eye, yet she pressed the assault until her mate stepped in to end it. Beyond that she carried the full Viltrumite physiology: an ages-long lifespan, flight, immense strength, resilience, sharpened senses, and swift healing.
