Love Aikawa

Mirrored sunglasses never leave Love's face, worn above brown eyes and beneath a dense black afro that spikes upward and adds to his already imposing height. A green tracksuit is his usual garb. A hundred and ten years earlier, during his captain days, he kept his hair in a rounder afro with long sideburns and dressed in the standard black uniform under a sleeveless captain's haori, the tinted glasses already in place.

Off the battlefield Love is relaxed to the point of laziness, forever buried in Shōnen Jump or borrowed manga and prone to reciting dramatic lines aloud like an actor rehearsing a script. Like the other Visored, he can flip from easygoing to deadly serious in a heartbeat. He has no patience for grandstanding, once cuffing Rōjūrō across the head for waxing philosophical right before a fight, and he answers Starrk's curiosity about the mask with a cheeky superhero joke. That friendly surface hides a ruthless combatant, though; against Coyote Starrk he opens with his mask and his fire at full force, giving his enemy no room to breathe. As a captain long ago he prized order and respect, quick to discipline troublemakers such as Hiyori when their own superiors would not.

Roughly a hundred and ten years ago Love led the Seventh Division with Jinemon Kotsubaki as his lieutenant. His life unraveled when he joined the squad sent to investigate the disappearance of Kensei Muguruma's unit, only to be caught in the Hollowfication ambush arranged by Aizen and carried out through Tōsen. Kisuke Urahara's attempt to reverse the process with the Hōgyoku failed, and Central 46 condemned the victims to death; Yoruichi spirited them away, and Urahara's reiatsu-masking Gigai let the group flee to the living world as the first Visored. Love resurfaces during the Fake Karakura Town battle, tearing a Gillian apart barehanded and later dueling Starrk, and he returns again in the Thousand-Year Blood War to stand against the Wandenreich. In combat he carries Tengumaru, a katana that on the command Crush Down becomes an oversized spiked club able to swat aside Cero and, through Hifuki no Kozuchi, spew a colossal fireball. Donning his Oni-styled Hollow mask multiplies his strength, letting him rend a Menos in half with Kagamibiraki, though the mask holds for only three minutes.
