Impact Recoil

Impact Recoil, dubbed Shock Inversion in English, punishes anyone who lands a hit on All For One. The force of an incoming blow gets turned around and dumped back onto the attacker, which makes striking him a decision with consequences.

Overview

Like most of his arsenal, All For One did not earn this Emitter Quirk. He lifted it from a person the story leaves unidentified. Readers first see it in Chapter 91, and the anime brings it to screen in Episode 48. The English dub renames it Shock Inversion.

Mechanics

The effect is a reversal at close range. When physical force comes at the user, the Quirk flips the impact so the damage lands on whoever delivered it.

It is not a clean nullification, though. Gran Torino was still knocked out of the fight for a moment by All Might's punch, proof that some of the force gets through. All For One works around that gap by putting other people in the line of fire, Warping them into the space between himself and an incoming attack.

A harder limit is what counts as an impact. Indirect assaults slip past it entirely, as the searing heat of Endeavor's Hellflame demonstrated, since there is no blow for the Quirk to send back.

Notable Users

All For One alone is shown using it, inheriting it from an unknown individual. Gran Torino, All Might, and Endeavor all feature in the moments that define both its power and its blind spots.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Impact Recoil Quirk do?

Impact Recoil, also called Shock Inversion in the English dub, is All For One's Quirk that reverses the force of an incoming physical hit at close range and sends the damage back onto whoever landed the blow.

Who uses the Impact Recoil Quirk?

All For One is the only known user of Impact Recoil, a Quirk he stole from a person the story never identifies.

What is the weakness of Impact Recoil?

Impact Recoil is not a perfect defense; Gran Torino still knocked All For One back for a moment with a punch from All Might, and the Quirk does nothing against indirect attacks like the heat of Endeavor's Hellflame.

How does All For One get around the risk of using Impact Recoil?

All For One offsets Impact Recoil's close range limit by Warping other people into the path of an incoming attack, letting them absorb the reversed force instead of him.

When did the Impact Recoil Quirk first appear?

Impact Recoil first appears in Chapter 91 of the My Hero Academia manga and Episode 48 of the anime.
