
Escape sends Banjou's group running while Aogiri's leaders are occupied. Their break for freedom goes wrong the moment an alarm sounds, and a Bin brother gives chase. Banjou takes a blow meant for young Kouto, and it falls to Kaneki to shield the fallen man with his own kagune.
With Ayato and Noro tied up in an Aogiri meeting and Yamori away in town, Banjou and his followers seize their chance to slip out. The attempt unravels when a patrolling ghoul stumbles onto them and shrieks an alarm to the guards. Ichimi, Jiro, and Sante cut the ghoul down at once, but a Bin brother is already on their heels.
As the group flees, Kei stumbles and nearly falls to the pursuing brother. Her son Kouto plants himself in front of her, but Banjou shoves the boy clear and absorbs the strike himself. He orders the horrified group to keep running, and they obey only after Ichimi, Jiro, and Sante reveal that Banjou can no longer use his kagune.
While the followers scatter, those three and Kaneki stay behind to help the wounded man. Just as the Bin brother moves to finish Banjou off, Kaneki intercepts the blow with his own kagune.
Banjou's breakout begins the moment Aogiri's leaders are distracted. An alarm exposes the group and draws a Bin brother into pursuit. Banjou is gravely hurt shielding Kouto, and it is revealed he cannot use his kagune. Kaneki commits to the fight, blocking the killing strike to protect Banjou.
Under the Japanese title 逃奔 (Tohon), this Volume 6 chapter ran in issue 2012-53 on November 29, 2012, between Chapters 56 and 58. It pushes Kaneki toward open confrontation with Aogiri for the first time.
Chapter 57, "Escape," follows Banjou and his followers making a break for freedom from the Aogiri Tree hideout, only for an alarm to expose them and a Bin brother to give chase.
Banjou's escape attempt goes wrong when a patrolling ghoul discovers the group and shrieks an alarm to the guards, even though Ichimi, Jiro, and Sante cut the ghoul down immediately.
Banjou is gravely injured in Chapter 57 when he shoves Kouto out of the way of a pursuing Bin brother's attack and absorbs the blow himself.
Banjou cannot fight back after being injured because his followers reveal that he can no longer use his kagune.
At the end of Chapter 57, Kaneki protects the fallen Banjou by intercepting the Bin brother's killing strike with his own kagune.
