Stray Cat

Stray Cat surfaces in Diamond is Unbreakable after the cat Tama dies and its Stand power stirs to life in the ground where it was buried. The result is a Stand fused to a plant: a stout stem forms the trunk, broad leaves work as nimble arms that can seize whatever wanders near, and a pair of petals fold into a feline face. Its eyes still swivel and watch, though the cat's night vision is gone, and behind them sit whiskers that coil whenever the power fires.

Lacking any spine or bone, the plant still twitches when petted along its middle, and rubbing its belly during a meal makes it heave. Its roots merely prop it up instead of feeding it, releasing waste into the soil that draws insects. After it matures, the face hardens into a fiercer shape with a rounder head and outward-thrusting whiskers. Colored manga gives it pink petals, while the anime shades them gray. Because it is Tama reborn, it acts every bit like a cat, stalking bugs and birds, prizing the fur and tail it lost, loving tuna and praise, and holding a lasting grudge against Shinobu Kawajiri for once striking it with a broom.

Stray Cat's first display is resurrection itself, reviving Tama as a plant that keeps the cat's memories and temperament while taking on a flower's needs. Its vitality runs on photosynthesis, so sunlight makes it formidable and darkness saps it, dropping it into a helpless dormant state when light disappears entirely, though it still must breathe air to survive.

Its dangerous trick is command of the surrounding air, worked through its whiskers. It packs air into invisible bubbles and fires them at targets or raises them as shields, and they hit hard enough to block Killer Queen's kick or Crazy Diamond's punches while wounding or killing on impact, even forcing a bubble into someone's bloodstream to cause an embolism. It can reshape these pockets into cuffs to pin a victim's limbs, as it did to Hayato Kawajiri, and it can hollow out a void of empty air around itself, which it once used to smother an explosion. The stronger the light it soaks up, the greater its grip on the air.

The Stand is the reincarnated form of Tama, Shinobu Kawajiri's cat. After Tama's death it lashes out at Shinobu and at Yoshikage Kira when he shields her, nearly killing him before a golf ball distracts it. Kira stows it in his attic, where the dark keeps it asleep until Hayato uncovers it. It eventually sides with Kira, who seats it in the cavity of Killer Queen's belly so its air balls can be turned into bombs. Once Kira falls, Stray Cat goes to live contentedly with Okuyasu Nijimura's father.
