Riko Amanai

Slim and youthful, Riko wore her long navy hair in a braid at the back that spilled past her shoulders, her bangs draping over the middle of her forehead. A pale band always rested on the crown of her head, and most often she was dressed in her school uniform. The look combined a white long-sleeved shirt trimmed with striped cuffs and collar, black stockings, black shoes, and a pleated skirt in blue. On other days she chose white shoes under a blue dress, and a trip to the beach saw her in a straw hat, a hooded white jacket, and a teal two-piece for the water.

Bold and quick-tongued, Riko seemed steadfast in believing she was meant to serve as the Star Plasma Vessel. The fierce front she sometimes wore masked an everyday teenage girl who had been pulled headlong into jujutsu without warning. People mattered enormously to her: deeply attached to Misato Kuroi, her caretaker, she also cherished the hours she spent with classmates. After Misato's kidnapping, her escorts proposed managing the rescue on their own, but she refused to sit out, and any threat to the people she loved or to her time with them sent her flustered, sometimes to tears.

With no real family of her own, Riko at first welcomed her destiny as the Vessel under the belief that she stood alone. That changed once she shared her days with Misato, her school friends, and her two escorts, Suguru Geto and Satoru Gojo; surrounded by them, she settled on a new wish, to keep on living her own life rather than dissolve into a merger with Master Tengen.

Despite being a non-combatant, Riko could still perceive cursed spirits, cursed techniques, and cursed energy. No Vessel before or since matched her latent potential; it ran higher than that of Yuki Tsukumo, a fellow Vessel who reached special grade. She spotted the spirit that Misato Kuroi rode upon, and during an assault by a curse user she made out his cloning technique along with Gojo's reach for Cursed Technique Reversal: Red, neither of which ordinary people can see. Her understanding of jujutsu ran deeper than her years suggested, taking in curse users, shikigami, cursed spirits, cursed techniques, and even the barriers that Tengen raised. Her story closed in tragedy when the Sorcerer Killer, Toji Fushiguro, broke past Gojo to kill her and so collapsed the merger that had been arranged with Tengen.
