Appearance

Toji cuts an imposing figure, tall and heavily muscled with straight black hair falling to about his ears. Green eyes mirror those of his son, set beneath thin brows, and a scar marks the right corner of his mouth. Off duty he keeps to a simple long-sleeved black top, matching pants, and sandals, switching to a fitted shirt, loose white training trousers, and martial slippers for combat. Back in his Zenin days he wore his hair longer with a dark haori over a black yukata. After Ogami's Séance Technique returns him, he occupies her grandson's body, and once he kills her his eyes turn fully black to mark his lost sense of self before reverting at the very end.

Personality

Calm, self-assured, and untroubled by minor things, Toji makes his living on raw skill and enjoys a sharp exchange of words, trading barbs even with Gojo. In a fight he wears a crazed grin while his mind stays cold and calculating. He asks nothing about a client's motives so long as the pay is right and does no extra work for free. Born without cursed energy into a clan that prizes it above all, he was abused as a child and grew to resent the entire jujutsu world, a bitterness much like Maki's. After leaving the Zenin and marrying, he took his wife's name and her kindness reformed him for a time, but her death sent him back to his cold former self. He later sold their son to the Zenin, naming him Megumi because it means blessings and believing the boy's potential warranted it. His undoing comes from pride: rather than flee a revived Gojo, he chooses to try to cut down the world's greatest sorcerer purely to spite the society that rejected him, ignoring his own instincts and paying with his life. In his final moments he tells young Gojo where Megumi will end up, an act that ultimately steers his son toward a different fate, and when reanimated he kills himself to keep from becoming a weapon against the boy.

Abilities

Though technically a non-curse user with no jujutsu talent, Toji ranked among the deadliest fighters of his era thanks to a Heavenly Restriction called Physically Gifted, the only known case where the restriction erased a person's cursed energy entirely. That total absence sharpened his five senses to their peak, let him perceive and resist curses, and made him invisible to other sorcerers, the perfect assassin who could slip through barriers and past the Six Eyes. During the Star Plasma Vessel Escort Mission he wore down and defeated an escort led by a young Gojo, cut through Geto and his strongest curses, and assassinated Riko Amanai, undone only when Gojo unleashed the awakened Limitless and Hollow Purple. A master weapons specialist, he stored a vast arsenal inside his Inventory Curse and wielded everything from katana and handguns to the soul-cutting Split Soul Katana, the technique-nullifying Inverted Spear of Heaven, the endlessly extending Chain of a Thousand Miles, and the brute-force Playful Cloud. His strength, speed, and reflexes were superhuman, and Yuki Tsukumo deemed him truly beyond human. When Ogami resurrected him, his gifted body overrode her control, killed her, nearly beat Takuma Ino to death, and singlehandedly exorcised the special grade Dagon before he turned a blade on himself to spare Megumi.
