A scar runs across the right side of Utahime's face, crossing the bridge of her nose, and she carries herself with a slender, average frame. Her blackish-purple hair falls all the way down her back, partly gathered at the rear of her head, set off by fine eyebrows and brown eyes.

For work she keeps to a shrine maiden's outfit, pairing a white kosode with red split hakama trousers, though she swaps the traditional footwear for modern brown boots. Off duty she dresses casually in a dark purple cap, white overalls layered over a black low-cut top, and dark shoes. Back in 2006 she went without the facial scar and tied her hair into twin pigtails, while still favoring the same miko garments.

Composed, warm, and firm in equal measure, Utahime works hard to model good behavior for the students under her watch. The one person who reliably breaks that calm is Satoru Gojo, who seems to know precisely which nerves to strike and provokes her in nearly every conversation they share. One barb about her being too weak to ever turn traitor earned him a thrown cup of tea. She reminds him constantly that she is the elder and deserves respect, a request he ignores without fail.

Her fanbook profile lists her dislike of sweets, a fondness for beer, and Gojo himself as the chief cause of her stress. Among her friendships is a drinking companionship with Shoko Ieiri, whom she keeps trying to nudge away from smoking.

As a semi-grade 1 sorcerer, Utahime mostly fills a support role for her teammates, yet she does not shy from dangerous fieldwork. When sent to retrieve students from possible curse users or cursed spirits, Yoshinobu Gakuganji asked her to steer clear of combat, an instruction that quietly confirmed she could hold her own if forced. She slipped past an attack from Haruta Shigemo and stood ready to trade blows with him, and she moved fast enough to plant herself in front of Kasumi Miwa as a shield against a close-range strike from Kenjaku.

Her innate technique, Solo Forbidden Area, briefly boosts the cursed energy of any consenting sorcerer caught in its range, herself included. Elevating it into a full ritual with chants, hand signs, dance, and song can drive its potency as high as 120 percent. She is also versed in barrier work and once tried to raise a Curtain over a haunted Hamamatsu mansion before Mei Mei cut her off. Her singing talent ties directly into the strength of her technique.
