Jet

Rendered as Jetto, Jet is a Mutant Quirk with a close-range classification, first appearing in Chapter 55 and animated in Episode 27. Sorahiko Torino, far better known as Gran Torino, is its user.

The Quirk opens vents in the soles of the feet through which air can be forced out, granting flight over a limited span and ground movement quick enough to escape sight entirely.

Horikoshi has said the image behind the power is water spraying from a showerhead. It parallels Tenya Ida's Engine, since both install propulsion in the lower body, though Engine sits in the calves and boosts running while Jet occupies the feet and boosts jumping.

Fuel comes from the user's own breath. The vents drive him along a straight line toward whatever point he has picked, and altering course means drawing a second breath to fire a fresh pulse. Whatever momentum builds up feeds directly into the force behind his blows.

Flight is real but shallow, and evasion is where the power genuinely shines. The ceiling is lung capacity. Once the air runs out so does the propulsion, which puts Jet well behind Quirks capable of holding a person aloft for long stretches.

Gran Torino remains among the fastest Pro Heroes despite his years. All Might says outright that the old man outruns sight itself, and Izuku Midoriya could not track his teacher at all while sparring in close quarters.

That speed converts to violence efficiently. He dropped several of the League of Villains' toughest members within seconds, landing one strike to each head before the rest could react. Hitting him back is another matter, since he changes direction and disappears on a whim. Even with One For All, Izuku managed nothing better than a scratch during training, and only All For One has ever connected, which took the Warping Quirk to accomplish.

He is practiced at turning the boost into raw force, closing on enemies and finishing with combinations of tackles and dropkicks. One such charge sent a Nomu clean through a train car, and a finishing blow split the pavement underneath it. The mobility serves rescue work as readily as combat. Age has taken its toll, though, and weakened bones and organs mean he cannot fire the Quirk off repeatedly.
