Kurogiri

Dark purple mist made up the whole of Kurogiri, interrupted only by two glowing yellow points where eyes belonged. A metal brace climbed from his collarbone to just beneath them. Off duty he dressed the vapor in an elegant suit and tie; on the job the suit disappeared under his own fog, leaving the brace as the one solid detail anyone could fix on.

After the doctors at Central Hospital woke him from storage, pieces of Oboro Shirakumo began surfacing through the mist, a shoulder here, a hand, a pupil. He spent that stretch in a long white straitjacket, which he kept wearing once he was back in the field.

Composure was as much his function as his temperament, and it repeatedly kept Tomura's tantrums from running the League of Villains off a cliff. His loyalty ran to All For One and Tomura alike, since he had been manufactured to mind the latter. Nomu conditioning narrowed whose orders he would accept, and anyone fishing for compromising information about the League got silence. He was courteous to a fault, formal even toward enemies, and could be found tending bar in the Kamino hideout early on, yet he had no objection whatsoever to stranding hero students somewhere torture or death was the likely outcome.

How much of Oboro persisted was never settled, but Shota Aizawa and Hizashi Yamada heard it plainly. He fretted about Tomura's condition and asked after him before anything else, and he admitted that his charge's personality did not bother him in the slightest, that he simply cared whether the boy was all right. Hearing that shook his old classmates badly. He seemed either unaware of or indifferent to who he had been, though Shota still coaxed a flicker of Oboro to the surface.

Garaki built him from Oboro Shirakumo's corpse on All For One's instructions, welding several Quirks together into the artificial Warp Gate with Oboro's Cloud as the base ingredient; how many others went into the mix was never established. The result pushed dark vapor out of his head and his hands, and whatever touched it arrived wherever he wanted, provided he knew the exact coordinates first. He could open several exits at once, which he proved by breaking up a squabble among Tomura, Dabi, and Himiko Toga by depositing each of their hands somewhere different. That utility made him irreplaceable. Even furious with him when the League hit U.A. High School, Tomura would not lay a hand on him and sent a Nomu to retrieve him, because he was the way out. He fought intelligently, too: reading Thirteen as a rescue specialist short on battlefield instinct, he set a gate directly ahead of himself and placed its exit at her back, turning her own Black Hole against her. The brace covered the single spot his protective fog could not reach.

Capture left him dormant in Tartarus until he was transferred to Central Hospital for study. Spinner woke him during the Final War, and he obeyed, warping Dabi and Himiko's rampaging Doubles into position before his programming began grinding against Oboro's memory. He stuttered, glitched, and started asking what it was he was supposed to be protecting. Then he did something no Nomu should have: when Himiko's Doubles knocked Shota and Hizashi off an observation deck, he set them down on a glacier out at sea rather than tearing them apart or letting them fall. Shota watched him shut down in tears and concluded that whatever the boy had been turned into, he had died a U.A. student. Reaching for the fragment left inside him, the two brought him under their control, and he carried the heroes to Mt. Fuji for Izuku Midoriya's last stand against All For One. The strain finished his body. Even collapsing, he opened one final gate to shield Tomura from Izuku's attack, a gesture Katsuki Bakugo foiled and Hizashi recognized instantly as Oboro reaching out for someone he cared about.
