Nao Shimura

Worry sits on her face through most of the panels she occupies. She was in her early thirties, with light brown eyes and hair of the same shade, parted down the middle so the bangs framed her face and falling to her shoulders in uneven waves, over a full figure.

Tomura's flashbacks put her in a range of everyday clothes, anything from a black shirt and jeans to a corduroy skirt.

Kindness under pressure describes her. She could see how badly her family was fracturing and could not quite stop it. When Kotaro moved to punish Tenko she begged him not to turn violent, then let it happen anyway rather than intervene outright.

Her affection for her children never wavered around that failure. She comforted Tenko afterward, fretted over his worsening allergies, and asked whether the dream of heroism was still his, which makes clear she held nothing against the profession or her son's ambition. She also seems to have known what her husband had lived through, which is why she went along with the ban on hero talk at home, and she told Tenko that Kotaro's harshness came from understanding how hard the work is rather than from hatred, an explanation that likely traced back to her mother-in-law's decision.

There was a limit. Once Kotaro struck the boy in a fit of anger she confronted him with her parents at her back and told him she was finished obeying his rules if he kept hurting the children, reminding him he had said he wanted a happy family. Love was still not enough to reach what was building in her son, and when Decay erupted she ran toward him with her own body already coming apart.

Nao was the only child of Chizuo and Mako Magi. She married Kotaro, had Hana and Tenko, and moved into the large house his success paid for, with her parents invited to live under the same roof.

The day everything collapsed started with Tenko causing trouble while playing hero and being marched outside as punishment. Nao asked her husband not to get violent and then did nothing as the boy was taken out. Later she asked for him to be brought in for dinner, noting his allergies had worsened without knowing what caused them, and that evening she held him while he asked why his father hated him. She told him that Kotaro did not.

When Kotaro found out the boy had been inside his office, Nao stood with the rest of the household in shock as he slapped Tenko across the face. She and her parents cornered him afterward while he sat over his mother's old letters. Then she went back outside and found Hana and the family dog dead and the ground disintegrating around her son. Decay reached her foot, she reached for Tenko anyway, and that was the last thing she did.

Kyudai Garaki recovered her severed hands along with the rest of the family's, and they became part of the villain costume worn by the boy All For One renamed Tomura Shigaraki, the same villain who had killed her mother-in-law. Her memory kept surfacing in him afterward: a vision asking once more whether heroism was still what he wanted, put to him while he lay unconscious after the interrupted transfer of All For One's Quirk, family constructs trying to block his path toward a shadowy All For One that he destroyed without hesitation, and, during the Final War, the Shimura faces manifesting in his left hand as the Quirk Singularity reshaped his body into a shell of hands. He used those memories to resist All For One's attempt to take him over from within, and shed the shell only once Izuku Midoriya beat him back into control of himself.
