Appearance

Periwinkle hair falls to Nejire's knees, two sections coiling around themselves at her waist before the ends curl inward around her legs. Her eyes are wide, round, royal blue, white-pupilled and thickly lashed, permanently set to the expression of someone a half second from asking something invasive. Bangs sweep to the side, tucked behind one ear and hanging over the other eye. Fair-skinned and shapely, she gets filed by her peers as cute rather than sexy.

Her hero costume is a skin-tight bodysuit in dark royal blue with a high collar, marked in pale mint and framed with turquoise from the shoulders down the torso. She wears knee-high boots, turquoise spirals at the ankles and thicker ones over yellow gauntlets, and black straps around her thighs carrying two small satchels. Behind her ears sit two spiraling horns of hair, shaped deliberately to echo her Quirk.

Dabi's flames cost her the length during the Paranormal Liberation War, leaving her hair at chin level. By the timeskip it is long again and curlier, and the costume is streamlined: the mint sections turn pure white, the collar goes black, and the spiral guards run longer and yellow around her wrists, arms, shins and feet.

Personality

Kindness and curiosity are the engine. Nejire is talkative, endlessly interested in whatever makes a person physically unusual, and blunt to the point of asking things nobody wants asked. In middle school that eagerness backfired badly. Classmates read her questions as condescension from a girl with a powerful Quirk and pulled away, and she hardened into someone cold, distant, and quietly bottled up. Tamaki Amajiki befriended her during her first year at U.A., Mirio Togata followed, and the confidence came back with them.

What she is now is a free spirit, affectionate, cheerful, and never standing still. She likes knowing things and likes explaining them more, with a delight in new information that gets her compared to a kindergartner, and she does Eri's hair for the fun of it. She can also go strangely flat, and beneath the airhead impression she is consistently level-headed.

None of the curiosity survives contact with an enemy. In a fight she narrows to the target and stays calm and ruthless, and against Tomura Shigaraki and the High-Ends she showed a rare temper. That hard center is why she made the Big 3.

History

Wave Motion converts her own vitality into energy and releases it as enormous spiral shockwaves. The spiral costs it speed, and the fuel is her stamina, so overuse wrecks her, which is why she trained the drawback out from underneath herself. She fires from her palms as offense and from her feet for mobility and flight, closing distance to blast point-blank or holding a battlefield at range. Turned down far enough the waves harm nothing, which makes them propellers, carriers, and restraints. Nejire Wave at output 30 sends a giant spiral from each hand, enough to drop two gigantification villains at once, and Pike narrows that into a piercing point she can redirect in flight. Nejire Flood opens her to maximum 100 for a downward waterfall of energy.

Her skill earned a work-study under Ryukyu. When the Shie Hassaikai Raid opened, the Ryukyu Squad put Rikiya Katsukame down, though only after his Energy Suck drained her and she traded with him for twenty minutes until his Trigger dose burned out. When Jaku City came apart she ran the waves as engines, ferrying vehicles and civilians clear inside them, and in Kansai she caught a giant sludge villain in one and simply held him there.

The Paranormal Liberation War pushed her past most professionals. Alongside Shoto Todoroki she overwhelmed the enhanced Tomura Shigaraki, and after Dabi caught her with flames hot enough to reduce people to ash she walked away with moderate burns and went straight back in, helping Mirio, Katsuki Bakugo, and Tenya Ida stall four Near High-End Nomu.

She was picked for the Final War assault team thrown at the body-enhanced "Tomura Shigaraki," and reunited with her Big 3 teammates she helped pin him down for a long stretch, feeding her waves into Mirio as fuel for his punches, control fine enough that the energy strengthened him instead of tearing him apart. Tomura opened her across the face and stomach and she kept fighting. She graduates after the war and turns Pro, and eight years on she is the No. 7 Hero, the third highest ranked woman in Japan behind Mt. Lady and Mirko.
