A horned happuri frames his face, the armored guard sitting above dull purple hair that he combs straight back. His build is ordinary, neither slight nor imposing.

His working outfit closely echoes Kido's: a flak jacket pulled on over a short-sleeved shirt. The tell that separates the two is the white X-shaped marking laid across the front of his jacket.

He is described as thoroughly committed to Enji Todoroki and to the Flaming Sidekickers, and none of that commitment curdles into territorialism when newcomers arrive. Katsuki Bakugo, Shoto Todoroki, and Izuku Midoriya all get a warm welcome from him when their work study begins.

The dedication is not purely social. He takes the job seriously enough to put himself in the fire during the last confrontation with Dabi, backing Shoto through it rather than hanging back.

His introduction is a guard shift. After the Hosu Incident closes with Stain in custody, he and Kido are left watching the Nomu that Gran Torino put down, holding it until police take it off their hands. He surfaces again during the Joint Training Battle, relaying to Endeavor that team-up offers and interview requests are flooding in. Endeavor tells him to compile a list and goes back to trying to reach his son. When the calls go unanswered and Endeavor bellows Shoto's name in a burst of flame, Onima offers the mild suggestion that the boy is probably sitting in class, while Kido quietly worries about their boss's state of mind. Later, when the work study interns arrive at the agency, he greets them with open arms.

His resume broadens from there. He takes part in the World Heroes Association's global operation against Humarise, the terrorist group that set off a Trigger Bomb and gutted a city. Against the Paranormal Liberation Front, his assignment is the Jaku Hospital Raid, aimed at seizing Kyudai Garaki and taking the unfinished Tomura Shigaraki into custody. The doctor turns the operation inside out by releasing the Nomu, Tomura wakes, and much of Jaku City goes with the hospital. Onima lives through the Decay and joins the scramble against the Near High-End Nomu that flee with Tomura.

In the Final War he goes to Kamino alongside Shoto and the rest of the sidekicks to face Dabi, the unit using their Quirks to shield him from the heat long enough for him to assemble Phosphor and strike back. Onima is handling the capture afterward, marveling that the villain is still breathing after burning himself, when Dabi copies Phosphor, comes back to life, and torches him. Burnin recovers him once Dabi bolts for Gunga with Shoto and Tenya in pursuit. He survives, and in the aftermath he drives his boss and the Todoroki family to Central Hospital to see Toya in his life support pod, afterward waiting with Untenmaru Kurumada and the rest of the sidekicks for Enji and Rei.
