Appearance

Hojo keeps his scalp bare, a practical choice that lets his Quirk work with fewer obstructions. Height and heavy muscle round out the build, and shadow tends to pool around his eyes.

His clothing is plain: a dark dress shirt with the top buttons left open, unremarkable trousers, black dress shoes. Where the other Eight Bullets wear their signature beaked masks, he settles for an ordinary medical one over his mouth.

Personality

Serious and dependable, Hojo gives Overhaul and the Shie Hassaikai his full allegiance. Enemies get the blunt, brutish version of him; the people fighting beside him get someone reliable.

Underneath sits a long grudge against everyone who once used him. He calls himself garbage and carries the abuse with him, yet Overhaul handed him a reason to exist, and he would die for the young master without hesitation. To his mind, no hero could ever grasp what binds a group of discarded people like the Eight Bullets together.

History

Hojo once produced gems for a man who expected to sell them at a fat profit. The stones proved worthless, and his employer had him beaten nearly to death and dumped. Overhaul found him lying in the street, offered him a place among his subordinates, and Hojo, out of options, accepted and joined the Eight Bullets.

When heroes stormed the Shie Hassaikai hideout, Hojo drew ambush duty alongside Toya Setsuno and Soramitsu Tabe. Mimic deposited a cluster of raiders into a cramped room, and Suneater, one of the Big 3 at U.A., stepped up to face all three alone. The opening strike went nowhere once Eraser Head switched their Quirks off, but Toya stalled long enough for the powers to return, and Hojo tore free of the hero's tentacles by crystallizing. Larceny stripped Suneater's defenses, yet he absorbed the crystal-loaded punch at maximum Manifest output and drove the trio back with Kraken.

Waking Soramitsu turned the fight for a stretch, since he could eat whatever Suneater manifested, and coordinated pressure set the hero up for another heavy blow. With Suneater near collapse, the three explained their debt to Overhaul; when he called them tools, Hojo snapped that a hero would never understand. Suneater then blinded Toya, replicated Hojo's own crystals to stop the follow-up, and finished all three with talons and tentacles. After Deku brought Overhaul down, Hojo was arrested with the rest of the organization.

Crystallize pushes hard, durable crystal out through his skin for both attack and defense, and he can grow it into a sword wrapping his arm. A pistol covers the moments when the Quirk is not the right tool. He is sharper than his gruff look suggests: he read Tamaki's counter on the spot, working out that the hero had packed octopus arms with dense muscle to eat the shock while shelling himself against the crystal edges.
