The Story of How We All Became Heroes

Present Mic points out that the class remains the injured party in a serious crime committed by their own classmate, and asks whether Yuga can be trusted at all. Tenya answers that it is all in the past, that they share some blame for never grasping his feelings, and that they would rather pull him back up to standing as their equal, the same way they did when Izuku left U.A. to fight alone. Naomasa tries to restore order and is interrupted by Eraser Head, calling in by video from his hospital room. He takes responsibility as homeroom teacher, refuses to expel the boy since he shares his students' view, and lays out a plan to draw All For One into the open. First, though, he has Naomasa block the Aoyamas' hearing so nothing can leak back through them.

The plan is shared with students, faculty, and police under strict silence, the Aoyamas go into custody, and the class heads back to the dorms to train for their part. Izuku and Tenya head to the Development Studio for repairs and are met by the familiar sight of the door blasting open and Mei landing on Izuku, who is too tired to get properly flustered. She turns out to be oblivious to the chaos following the war, buried in the enormous U.A. Barrier upgrades that Power Loader and the support course are running. She refuses to rush Izuku's ruined Mid-Gauntlets, which would need rebuilding from scratch without enough Condenium for the compression mechanism, and turns down Tenya's armor repair for lack of costume documentation. She calls the barrier work the support course's own brand of heroics: inventing ways to keep heroes and civilians alive. Then she hurls Izuku something cobbled together from the Mid-Gauntlets and his Air Force Gloves, passes Tenya fresh armor, and tells them to pass the word that they are going to win this.

Mt. Lady briefs the class outside on their end of the strategy, splitting them into three teams under Izuku, Shoto, and Katsuki, and sending them to accelerate the hunt for the Paranormal Liberation Front's remnants while other heroes push evacuations. At Central Hospital, Yuga is tested for traps implanted through All For One while All Might and Hawks brief the police, Star and Stripe's pilots, and Ragdoll. The critical requirement is keeping Tomura and All For One at least ten kilometers apart, so the heroes can handle their strength and so the two cannot coordinate via the consciousness they share, or via Radio Waves. That means baiting the villains out and splitting their forces, and it all hinges on Yuga agreeing to help. Naomasa doubts him; All Might trusts both the boy and the teacher trying to reach him.

The results come back clean, and Eraser Head reasons that if All For One had rigged every associate the way he rigged Lady Nagant, he would never have needed fear to keep Yuga in line. He asks the boy what he is afraid of. Yuga names All For One, and then names the worse fear: failing to shine, failing to answer his classmates' pleas, and he says he would rather crawl off somewhere and die than disappoint them. Eraser Head tells him plainly that staying at U.A. afterward is unlikely, so all that remains is fighting for what is right. He admits that using him this way may be unethical, but promises that while he is still Yuga's teacher he will not allow the boy to walk away from them, and that he will shield the boy and his class if he comes along. Yuga quietly agrees, then asks what one criminal is worth on his own against the villains. With a small smile, Eraser Head tells him the role is a daunting one, and that his teachers, his classmates, and every hero in the operation will walk it beside him without hesitating.

As the sun sets, two students call up into a tree, where Hitoshi Shinso hangs upside down from his binding cloth in a proper hero costume.

Eraser Head refuses to expel Yuga, takes responsibility for him, and proposes the operation to lure All For One out of hiding.

Yuga's medical tests come back negative for implanted countermeasures, and he agrees to serve as bait.

Mei Hatsume supplies Izuku with a hybrid gauntlet built from his Mid-Gauntlets and Air Force Gloves, and gives Tenya replacement armor.

Mt. Lady divides Class 1-A into three squads led by Izuku, Shoto, and Katsuki.

All Might establishes the ten-kilometer separation requirement between Tomura and All For One.

Hitoshi Shinso appears in a hero costume.

Eraser Head addresses the room from a large wall screen instead of the tablet Present Mic holds in the manga. The three-team split is an anime change from the manga's single unit centered on Izuku, and it ties directly into the fourth film, My Hero Academia: You're Next. Nejire is also shown subduing a villain in Kansai.
