A struggling paper called Juko News scrambles for an angle on All Might's retirement, having arrived last to a story every rival already ran. Freelancer Taneo Tokuda offers a reading that reframes it entirely: the famous parting words were not a threat aimed at criminals but a handoff, spoken to one particular student at U.A. High School. His editor promises to secure interview access provided the exclusive lands on her desk.

Taneo first suspects Mirio Togata, one of The Big 3, then discards him after weighing the collapse of the partnership between All Might and Sir Nighteye, which steers him toward the first-years instead. Shota Aizawa tells the class that Nezu signed off on the visit so families could see them settled happily into the dorms, and Taneo reminds the teacher that the principal barred any interference. Filming daily routines and cataloguing Quirks narrows the field until only Izuku Midoriya is left standing.

Rain falls that afternoon as All Might turns up at Heights Alliance carrying meat buns, a gift from a shopkeeper thrilled to serve him, along with a borrowed umbrella. He finds Izuku training alone outside and mentions a routine hospital checkup. The two talk about the weight waiting on the boy who must eventually eclipse the Symbol of Peace, and the retired hero promises their lessons begin tomorrow.

Once they part, Taneo introduces himself properly. Eighteen years earlier an industrial complex was bombed; his father was among the workers pulled out alive, and the boy who accidentally snapped a photo of that rescue grew into a man who writes about heroes for a living. His Quirk, Whole-Body Lens, sprouts a camera lens anywhere on his skin, which is how he already holds a printed shot of the conversation that just ended. He walks Izuku through the evidence trail that produced his answer, including a talk with Kota Izumi.

Having proven himself right, Taneo buries what he found, out of respect for the boy and admiration for his idol. He came looking for reassurance rather than a headline, and knowing hope outlived All Might's retirement is enough. He takes a selfie to store inside his body until the day he can publish a book about Izuku, then leaves as Ochaco Uraraka calls everyone in for dinner. Back at the office he plays dumb, apologises for a bad hunch, and hands his editor a consolation piece about All Might eating meat buns, which delights her. Elsewhere, Twice drives Overhaul toward the League of Villains.

Taneo Tokuda reinterprets All Might's final broadcast as a message meant for a chosen successor, then secures permission to embed with Class 1-A at Heights Alliance.

Whole-Body Lens debuts. Taneo correctly deduces that Izuku carries One For All, and then refuses to publish what he learned.

All Might commits to starting the next stage of Izuku's training, while the closing scene sets Overhaul on course for a meeting with the League of Villains.

This installment launches the fourth season and the Shie Hassaikai arc. Polaris serves as the opening theme and About a Voyage as the ending.

Nearly the entire episode is original to the anime rather than adapted from the manga.

A large portion of the cast turns up only inside flashbacks, photographs, or imagined asides as Taneo works through his research on Class 1-A.
